Program Description
Summer is a beautiful time to be in the U.P.! Well, most locals would say any time is a beautiful time but winter is over, the snow and ice have gone away and the time for getting outside and enjoying the warmer temps has arrived. For kids, it means outdoor activities are ramping up and there's no better outside activity than riding a bike and no better place to ride it than in the Little Bellas W. Marquette County Weekly Program!
The W. Marquette Weekly Program offers eight recurring, Sunday late afternoon sessions at Jackson Mine Park throughout the season. This program creates a fun, positive environment where each girl can make new friends, learn new skills, and build confidence. We focus on having fun, using games and activities to teach and develop basic to more advanced mountain bike skills. Whether it's riding to find clues in a scavenger hunt, navigating an bike skills obstacle course, or riding the flowing trails Jackson Mine Park, the girls build confidence in their riding skills and in themselves!
Once a week, the girls and Mentors (we don't coach, we mentor) will engage in different activities, rides, and games as a way to progress through a basic to advanced mountain biking skill set. The girls are given healthy challenges in a friendly, fun environment as a way to build confidence and enhance skill learning. This curriculum is designed to promote camaraderie among the girls, progressive skill learning, and to perpetuate the love of mountain biking, all while having a great time! This program is for riding and fun and is not focused on competition.
Financial assistance is available if needed and we also have equipment available through our Gear Up program! Please communicate any of these needs when filling out the registration form for the program.
W. Marquette Program Lead
Deb dove into mountain biking at the ripe young age of 46. Hey, better late than never and did she ever dive in! Surrounded by a strong cycling community, she found a fellowship that not only welcomed her with open arms, but inspired her to pay it forward. She has immersed herself in the cycling community, helping other people experience the joys and feelings of accomplishments riding can bring, all while gaining more skills and knowledge for herself! She’s even diving into the mythical and magical bike mechanic side of cycling. Yikes! Go Deb! But that’s how she is. Deb wants to know it all and share the knowledge and experiences with as many people as she can. And we’re psyched!
