Program Description
It's never too early to plan for Summer! Flash-forward to when school is out, the weather is getting warmer, and it's time to get out and ride! The Little Bellas St Paul Program is the perfect way for the kids to burn off all the, all-day classroom, energy in a fun, confidence building way!
The St Paul Mountain Bike Program meets for eight select Mondays, mid spring into summer at Battle Creek Regional Park. The program welcomes girls of all and any abilities to have fun, ride bikes, play games, and learn skills for mountain biking. It's main focus is to have fun! The goal is to create a fun, positive environment for the girls to build confidence and learn new skills. Whether it climbing the hills for a great view of the Mississippi River or trying to find the last open space during musical bikes, the trail riding and games both on and off the bike, allow the girls to practice proper riding technique, eat snacks, and make new friends.
We will meet near the Battle Creek Recreation Center. The St Paul program is open to girls 10 - 13.
Girls and Mentors (we don't coach, we mentor) ride once a week and work on a mountain bike skills progression through different activities, rides, and adventures. The goal is to get girls outside, out on trails, and out with other girls to reinforce common bonds and build confidence, all while progressively building mountain bike skills. The girls will be given healthy challenges in a friendly, fun environment. This program is for riding and promoting a love for mountain biking and is not focused on competition.
Financial assistance is available if needed and we also have equipment available through our Gear Up program! Please communicate any of these needs when filling out the registration form for the program.
St Paul, MN Program Lead
The St Paul program is led by Martha Flynn. Martha is a St Paul girl through and through. A fixture in the Minnesota biking community, if you've done a race or event related to mountain biking, you've probably seen her there. She says a belated "Hi!". Besides organizing and helping run the events, she also dabbles in the races, entering both mountain bike races in the summer and fat bike races in the winter (yup, it's Minnesota, lot of winter). She sees them as a way to push herself and her limits, while engaging in a sport she loves. Her involvement helps her share this love with as many people as possible, especially young girls. In addition to being the St Paul Program lead, she is also the Little Bellas Regional Coordinator for all things in MN and WI. She's always ready with encouragement and a "Wooo-hooo" whenever she sees young girls riding their bikes and having fun. This amazing attitude has always allowed her to do what she loves, be it riding, racing, singing, or dancing. As Martha puts it, "Just because you aren't the most skilled at it doesn't mean you can't do what you love!" Martha is joined by a great group of female mentors from the community who bring a variety of skill, personality and super powers!
