The long winter is over! Assuming it's been long, as they usually are in the northeast, but the snow does melt and temps do warm up! Kids are ready to get out and play in the woods, in the fields, anywhere outside. A great way to get kids outside and active? The Little Bellas Northwest Boston Weekly Program!
The Northwest Boston Weekly Program meets on five select Sundays at DCR's Great Brook Farm State Park throughout the season. Open to all abilities, this program is based around having fun and creates an environment where each girl can make new friends, ride trails, and play games, all while learning the skills for mountain biking. With a 20 miles of flowing trails, ranging from beginner to more advanced, Great Brook Farm is the perfect place to learn new skills and ride sweet terrain. And there are animals to say hi to as there is a working farm on the property!
Each week girls and mentors (we don't coach, we mentor) participate in a variety of activities, trail rides, and games. Through the games and different activities, we focus on having fun, while using these elements to teach and working on basic to more advanced mountain bike skills. This curriculum is designed to promote camaraderie among the girls, progressive skill learning, and perpetuate the love of mountain biking. All while having a great time! This program is for riding and fun and is not focused on competition.
Financial assistance is available if needed and we also have equipment available through our Gear Up program! Please communicate any of these needs when filling out the registration form for the program.
NW Boston, MA Program Lead
Leading the NW Boston and Walpole, MA programs is nature and dirt-loving mountain bike enthusiast, Lauren Kling. Lauren believes in trying out new adventure lines, playing in mud, sharing fun nature facts, and petting every dog and cat she comes across (as long as their people say it's okay!). She works full-time with kids with disabilities as a physical therapist and enjoys spending her free time helping girls, women, and people of all ability levels access the outdoors through local rides, Little Bellas, and volunteering for an adaptive surfing and an adaptive mountain biking program! When not out on the trails, Lauren is probably walking in the woods with her sweet 13 year old cattledog mix (and retired trail dog) and Finch's doggy friends, trying to keep her jungle of houseplants happy, or making something with her hands - pottery, sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, and more! Lauren loves working to build an inclusive and welcoming community for girls and women on bikes and can't wait to ride bikes with the amazing Little Bellas and Mentors this year!
