They say Birkie provides year-round, healthy, active lifestyle events for thousands of adventurous spirits of all ages and abilities, so it just felt right that Little Bellas came to town! And here we are!
This program is an all-girls, Give it a Whirl Day held in Hayward at one of Wisconsin's best mountain bike trail systems, the Birkie and CAMBA trails. This is a mountain bikers paradise! And better yet, it's a Little Bellas paradise too!
This Give it a Whirl day aims to get girls of all abilities either introduced to the sport or help them develop an already present interest. Based around having fun, we play lots of games (on and off the bike), explore and ride trails, incorporate basic bike skills and then adjust those skills as the girls progress.
We also use the mountain bike experience to help the girls gain confidence, build camaraderie other girls on bikes, seek out new adventures, and get outdoors! These are learning skills your daughter can take with her throughout life!
It is a great opportunity for girls looking to try out mountain biking as well as for those who are ready for the next level of challenge.
Wisconsin Program Lead
Martha resides in the Twin Cities, but travels to the Hayward area as often as possible! A fixture in the Midwest biking community, if you've done a race or event related to mountain biking, you've probably seen her there. She says a belated "Hi!". Besides organizing and helping run the events, she also dabbles in the races, entering both mountain bike races in the summer and fat bike races in the winter (yup, it's the Midwest, lot of winter). She sees them as a way to push herself and her limits, while engaging in a sport she loves. Her involvement helps her share this love with as many people as possible, especially young girls. She's always ready with encouragement and a "Wooo-hooo" whenever she sees young girls riding their bikes and having fun. This amazing attitude has always allowed her to do what she loves, be it riding, racing, singing, or dancing. As Martha puts it, "Just because you aren't the most skilled at it doesn't mean you can't do what you love!" Martha is joined by a great group of female mentors from the community who bring a variety of skill, personality and super powers!
