August offers up some great riding in the South! Trails are dry, weather is clear, and kids are back in school but what better way to keep kids out and on their bikes than the Little Bellas Athens Weekly Program!
The Athens Weekly Program meets eight Sundays at Walker Park and welcomes girls of all abilities. Based around having fun, the program creates an environment to allow each girl to make new friends, ride trails, and play games, all while learning skills for the sport of mountain biking. Whether it's the dips and flow of the Green Loop or the berms, rollers, and rocks of Drive By Trucker (one of the best trail names ever), there is something for all abilities of rider.
Girls and Mentors (we don't coach, we mentor) ride once a week and participate in games and activities to help them build confidence and mountain bike skills in a progression. The girls will be given healthy challenges in a friendly, fun environment, both on and off the bike. This curriculum is designed to promote camaraderie among the girls, skill learning, and to perpetuate the love of mountain biking, all while having a great time! This program is for riding and fun and is not focused on competition.
Financial assistance is available if needed and we also have equipment available through our Gear Up program! Please communicate any of these needs when filling out the registration form for the program.
Athens, GA Program Lead
Abby Hobbs currently resides in her hometown of Athens, GA. She’s a University of Georgia student pursuing a degree in chemistry with an emphasis in research revolving around analytical and atmospheric/environmental chemistry (Shout out to more females in science!). When she’s not in her lab coat, you’ll find her racing national enduro, gravel and/or criteriums for local teams and for the University of Georgia cycling team. For Abby, cycling is a place she goes to break away from stress, find peace, and connect with herself and nature. Abby grew up racing motorcycles (Woah!) and eventually found her way to a bicycle (thanks to her brother and a local bike shop), and her life was forever changed! Once Abby switched to mountain biking, the Athens cycling community welcomed her with open arms and became family to her. Abby has found that the friendships you form on the trails last a lifetime and she thinks it’s so important to get more girls and women on bikes. Abby is absolutely stoked on the non-intimidating, pure-joy-inducing environment, and the community building atmosphere of Little Bellas! Abby is pumped for our fall program!
